Within the framework of the Jean Monnet program are implemented several scientific and teaching projects. Among others, Jean Monnet module Secular Europe: European secular identities (first JM module in the field of political science in Croatia) and Jean Monnet Chair in EU Political Studies: Networks of European Integration.

Jean Monnet Module

Jean Monnet Module Secular Europe: European Secular Sdentities is the first JM module in Political Science at the University of Zagreb. The module discusses a wide range of issues related to the theory and the historical development of the European integration. This interdisciplinary module explores key issues of the European integration, using the achievements of philosophy, sociology, comparative politics of European integration, public and constitutional law, history and theology.

The central issues covered by lectures and seminars include the issues of European identity, the idea of secularity and laicism, the emergence of the modern political system of the European Union, the deontology of European integration, separation of church and state, the relationship between religious and non-confessional / atheist / agnostic associations and their role in the process of European integration, and the likes.

 

 

 

Jean Monnet Chair

Hrvoje Špehar, Head of the Centre, has been named Jean Monnet Chair in EU Political Studies in 2014. The new Jean Monnet Chair project with the title “Networks of European Integration” has the particular emphasis on approaches that provide social constructivism, and the concept of policy networks, facilitating the research of the activities of the actors, the creation of political processes, the formation of institutions and the normative foundations of this unique political system. The Jean Monnet Chair in EU Political Studies: Networks of European Integration organises lectures and seminars in the area of European studies at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, and a special scientific research project and the dissemination of its results in scientific publications, presentations of papers at scientific conferences and other formats open to the interested public.

 

Besides key courses on European studies taught at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, the Jean Monnet Chair of Political Studies of the European Union has contributed to the creation of new areas of lectures and seminars: the Jean Monnet seminar Historical Background of the Social Networks in European Integration (within the course State and Constitution), the Jean Monnet lecture and seminar Policy Networks and Social Constructivism in European Integration (within the course entitled Political Theory of European Integration) and the Jean Monnet lecture and seminar Cohesion Policy of the European Union: Actors, Institutions, Processes and Values (within a course entitled Political System of the European Union). The project includes three levels of university lectures and seminars in the area of European studies: the first level on the historical background of European integration, the second on the theory of European integration, and the third on examples of the influence of policy networks and social constructivism on the building of the political system of the European Union, thereby contributing to a broader understanding of European integration and university activity in the area of European studies.
