Organized by the Centre for European Studies, on April 19th, 2011 the Faculty of Political Sciences held a lecture entitled "The EU and the USA.: complementarities and differences" with guest professor Dr Alan Draper from the University of St. Lawrence, USA (also a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at the University of Innsbruck) with Dr Damir Grubiša and Dr Nenad Zakošek. This lecture is the result of cooperation between the Center for European Studies and the Faculty of Political Science, with representatives of the Fulbright Program at the American Embassy in Croatia, who also attended the lecture of Professor Draper.

The topic of the roundtable organized by the Center for European Studies at the Faculty of Political Science on April 15, 2011 was the Danube region and Central Europe in the EU as examples of regional cooperation. Along with Dr Damir Grubiša, Tihomir Cipek, Ph.D. of the Faculty, special guest speaker was Erhard Busek, Ph.D., special coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe from 2001 to 2008, coordinator for the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI), Chairman of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe and the European Forum Alpbach. The roundtable was also attended by the ambassadors of Austria and Macedonia Jan Kickert and Dančo Markovski. The Dean of the Faculty of Political Science Professor Nenad Zakošek, also addressed the participants.

The topic of the roundtable "The European Union and Islam" was the position and perspective of Islam and Muslims in the European Union. The roundtable was held on April the 6th at the Faculty of Political Science, organized by the Center for European Studies (CES). The cause for the round table was the presentation of the book "Islam from the inside" by Mirza Mešić, the Imam of Zagreb. Professor Damir Grubiša, head of the CES, assistants at the Faculty, Hrvoje Šprehar, PhD and Nataša Beširević, MA, Ruben Hasanbegović, PhD, from the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar, as well as the author of the book himself, Mirza Mesić, the Imam of Zagreb, spoke in the presence of a large number of students and university professors, representatives of diplomatic corps in the Republic of Croatia, as well as the head of the Islamic Community in Croatia Mufti Šefko Omerbašić about the challenges of multiculturalism, the Islamic heritage in Europe, relations of countries in the EU according to religious communities, the problems and prejudices of the entry of Turkey into the EU, current media reports and publications about Islam, and finally upon the book "Islam from the inside".

In a full hall of the Faculty of Political Science on Monday, January 24, Center for European Studies organized a round table discussion entitled "The European path of the Western Balkans: obstacles and challenges". In front of numerous students and university professors, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Croatian ministries, journalists and agencies that deal with the European Union spoke Dr Vesna Pusić, President of the National Committee for Monitoring Negotiations with the European Union, Neven Mimica, MSc, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Croatian Parliament, Andrej Plenković, MSc, State Secretary for European Integration, Budimir Lončar, President of the Council for Foreign Policy and International Relations of the President of Republic of Croatia and Ambassador Wolfgang Petritsch, as a special guest lecturer.

The theme of the round table which took place on November 16, 2010, in the Info Centre of the Delegation of the European Union in Zagreb was Croatia and the Western Balkan countries. Panel discussion brought together scientists and professionals who deal with the European Union and with about 60 visitors and journalists it tried to explain the current position of Croatia in the negotiations, mentioned in the Progress Report for Croatia and how it was rated by Croatian politicians and experts, but also what was the situation in the Croatia’s neighborhood countries when it came to negotiations with the European Union.
