![]() On June 15, 2009, the Center for European Studies at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb will organize an academic conference whose primary subject matter will revolve around the political system of the European Union and the Europeanisation of Croatian politics. The conference will be held at the EU Information Center at the Delegation of the European Commission in Zagreb (Trg žrtava fašizma 6) at 10:00 o'clock.
This year we celebrate 20 years since the historic fall of the Berlin wall, the fifth anniversary of the biggest enlargement of the European Union, European Parliament elections, the change and the establishment of a new composition of the European Commission, and a predicted technical conclusion of the negotiations between the EU and Croatia. Therefore, it is a desire of the organizers to take a look at the current events in the EU and the development of some of its policies with a special emphasis on the challenges of the implications of those policies in Croatia. The organizer of this conference which will bring together scientists and professionals with a common goal of problematizing European policies in the Republic of Croatia is the Center for European Studies at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb that has been active since 2008. This is the first center of excellence, an academic think tank organized at a higher education institution that focuses on politics and political science research of the European Union and the Europeanisation of Croatia. This conference will also be an opportunity to introduce the activities and objectives of the Center to the public. The conference will be opened by Head of the Delegation of European Commission in Zagreb HE Vincent Degert, Head of the Center for European Studies Dr Damir Grubiša, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science Dr Vlatko Cvrtila and the Secretary of State and the Foreign Ministry Davor Božinović, Ph.D. The conference is open to the public, but it is necessary to confirm one's arrival to the Coordinator of the Center for European Studies, Nataša Beširević, MA.
