A project named "Political system of the EU, European politics and the Europeanization of Croatia" is realized within the Center headed by Professor Damir Grubiša at the Faculty of Political Sciences. The project explores the development of the EU's political system being developed after the Maastricht Treaty, especially during the drafting of the Constitution for Europe and after the signing of the Treaty of Lisbon (2007). It also explores the interaction of the political system of the EU as a sui generis system, with political systems of "old" member states and "new" member states of the fifth enlargement in 2004, and the political systems of the candidate countries.
Within the project, special attention was paid to the influence of the development of the political system of the EU on Croatian policy and the development of the Croatian political system. In this context, the main focus lies on the research of „Europeanisation“ of political systems and in particular the Croatian political system, from the standpoint of the latest achievements of the discipline „European studies“ which has been developing in Europe since 1950.
Therefore, the achievements of comparative politics in Europe - which has developed the concept and methodology of "Europeanization", are used in scientific researches. The concept of "Europeanization“ refers to the process of re-orientating the direction and shape of politics whereby political and economic  dynamics of the EU are part of the organizational logic of national politics and the creation of policies.

Long-term scientific research program will cover several topics:

  1. ProjectsThe evolution of the political system of the EU from the Maastricht Treaty to the Treaty of Lisbon (2007) and political innovations in institutions, participants, values and processes;
  2. Comparative analysis of the political systems of old member states and the analysis of the effects of "Europeanization" on these systems;
  3. Comparative analysis of the political systems of new member states and the analysis of the effects of "Europeanization" on these systems;
  4. Comparative analysis of the political systems of candidate countries  and the analysis of the effects of "Europeanization" on these systems;
  5. The study of evolution and the transition of the Government model into Governance model
  6. A case study of "Europeanization" of classical concepts of political science, such as democracy, participation, political corruption, sovereignty, subsidiarity, federalization, regionalization, consensualisation, etc.
  7. Comparative analysis of the so-called "neuralgic points" of Europeanisation, for example, changes in political institutions, procedures, political interest  values;
  8. Analysis of possible effects of "Europeanization" on Croatian politics and the political system and, conversely, the possible influence of Croatian political  theory and practice on the evolution of the political system of the EU.
This project is one of the seven projects that are being realized within the "European Studies and Croatian political development: a multidisciplinary approach“ program.
